A note on junior members: applications for junior membership are currently being accepted but placed on a waitlist. You may apply, but junior applications are processed in May in the order they were received.

The timeline for new members.

From application to riding on the ambulance, here’s how the path looks.

  1. 01

    Apply online

Fill out the application — it takes about 15 minutes. A non-refundable $25 application fee is due at time of application, payable online.

  2. 02

    Interview with the Membership Committee

Interviews are held once a month. If found favorable, the Corps votes to confirm you as a member at the next membership meeting.

  3. 03

    Complete basic training

CPR, two computer-based courses (about four to five hours total), and six in-person workshops. A test confirms you understand the skills you've learned.

  4. 04

    Ride as an observer

Once you pass the test, sign up for observer shifts online. Most members complete their ten-call observer requirement in eight to twelve four-hour shifts.

  5. 05

    Become an attendant

After hitting your call quota and passing a proficiency test, you become an attendant. From there, most members go on to become EMTs, drivers, or both.

Requirements to maintain membership.

We hold ourselves to a high standard so the community gets the care it deserves.

First 90 days are probationary

Complete your training and remain in good standing during your initial probationary period.

100 hours per year, minimum

Members volunteer at least 100 hours each year to remain active. Most contribute far more — the more you put into VAC, the more you get out.

Ongoing training

Members attend a set number of training sessions every year to maintain skills and learn new ones.

School service hours

Due to the training requirements, we are unable to sign school service hours within the first year of membership.
